The Numark Orbit was released in June 2013, but you probably didn’t hear much about it, considering it was overshadowed by the release of Native Instruments Traktor Z2 and Z1. Let’s not forget the Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus, which was a show-stopper. The Obit was more of a sidekick to any mainstream gear on the market.
What made this device so special was the 16-Colored Backlit pads, with four selectable banks equating to a total of 84 customizable buttons. The virtual knob in the center also had four customizable banks. As a bonus, the device came equipped with a 2-axis accelerometer activated by the shoulder buttons. The fact that it supported wireless or wired connectivity is the icing on the DJ and lighting programmers’ cake. The ability to step away from the booth and have complete control over your lights and DJ application is priceless (midi communication, of course).
I grabbed mine used on eBay a few years back and still use it. If you find it reasonably priced, the battery is in good condition, and comes with a dongle; I would suggest grabbing it.
